The Recreation Program is a developmental soccer program for all children regardless of skill or ability.  The program consists of five age groups in the fall, U6, U8, U10, U12, and U14, and in the spring we add U16 and U19 age groups.  All players who register in the fall are registered for both the fall and spring season, players may sign up to play in the spring as well but they will only be registered for the spring season.

The U6 division consists on a boys and girls division.  The U6 division practices once a week and plays one game per week, usually on Saturday Mornings against other Hamden U6 teams.  The U6 teams are coached by Parent/Volunteers.  HSA does sponsor clinics during the season in place of some practices; these clinics are run by professional coaches and offer a variety of basic soccer skills.  The clinics goal is to teach young players the fundamentals of soccer, as well as teaching the parent/volunteers proper coaching techniques.

The U8 division consists of a boy and girls division, they practice once a week and play one game per week usually on Saturday against other Hamden U8 teams.  HSA also offers clinics to the U8 divisions; these clinics are more advanced than the U6 clinics, but serve the same overall purpose.

The U10 Division consists of a boys and girls division, these teams practice twice a week and usually have one game per week on Saturday against other Hamden U10 teams.  The U10 division will also offer clinics to teams during the season; these clinics are again more advanced than U6 or U8.  The U10 teams are coached by Parent/Volunteers most of whom have a few years experience coaching soccer.

The U12 and U14 Divisions consist of a girls and boys division, usually only one or two teams per division, this due to the number of players assigned to each team.  These divisions are coached by seasoned Parent/Volunteers who have been involved in Hamden Soccer for many years.  These divisions may or may not have clinics, but the coaches at this level have the experience to teach.  These divisions play in the South Central Division of Connecticut Junior Soccer, therefore they travel for games, games can be played at Home, or as close as North Haven and as far away as Madison or Seymour.  There are also opportunities to play in tournaments sponsored by CJSA.  Divisions with more than one team will play games against other Hamden teams; otherwise the games will be against other towns.

The U16 and U19 divisions consist of a boys and girls division, these age groups are only available in the spring season due to the fact that some of these players are playing on their Middle School, High School or College teams and their season is in the fall.  U16 – U19 are strictly a travel division with some tournaments, there are no clinics, and they are coached by Parent/Volunteers who have many years of experience coaching soccer.

Playing recreational soccer is fun and exciting, many children have played for years, others have just started either way they enjoy the sport, the exercise, and the fun.  Whether you have been playing soccer for six years or six weeks come on out and play we would love to have you.
