Once again this weekend my team had to utilize our intown emergency services, during our game against Naugatuck. Once again The Hamden Fire Department came through, porfessional, courteous, and compassionate with our injured girl. And although an ambulance was not needed in this case, (the player opted for a ride to the hospital in her Mom's Volvo, kind of appropriate for a soccer Mom, I am only kidding, please do not send any hate email I get enough already) American Medical Response was right there just in case.
Thank you again to the HFD and AMR, keep up the good work. The player is home and should be back on the field in a couple of weeks.

TO ALL COACHES AND PARENTS;
For the first time in almost 12 years of coaching for Hamden Soccer, we had a player taken, by ambulance, to the Emergency Room. After so many years of coaching and seeing all the typical soccer related injuries, scrapes, bruises, cuts, twisted ankles, etc. this was kind of a wake up call. Coaches please remember that all players must wear, shin guards, and should wear, cleats and even eye protection. And, please remember that even though an injury seems minor, look at it carefully, especially when dealing in the head and neck area, always err on the side of caution, take no chances, if you think an injury may be serious, call 911.
The player on my team will be ok, but she will have to wear a neck brace for some time, and she will certainly not be playing soccer for quite a while. This injury happened towards the end of the first half, needless to say that after the ambulance left the second half was not a great half. Many of the players were hesitant when going after a ball, obviously having thoughts of Fire Dept Personnel and ambulances in the back of their minds.
A special thanks to the members of the Hamden Fire Department, and American Medical Response, for the prompt and comforting response, they were professional as well as kind and considerate to a scared 12 year old girl.
